YOU GOT YOUR PEACE NOW

The last couple of days have been really tough, emotionally heartbreaking. My beloved queen, Tjojs, has not done so well with her back legs, but it has come and gone. Every time I have said to myself that now is the time, she has come trotting past me like, "What are you talking about?"

Wednesday, I could see her pain, even if Tjojs was a tricky one with high pain-tolerance level. I called and told my veterinarian now was the time, could he come tomorrow?

It killed my heart to see her mind being clear, still communicating with me and the pack, still being the dominant soul in the pack. But to see her pain, falling down the two steps outside, the difficulty not coming up very fast and well on the slippery floor. But the question kept running trough my head, "Was it the time?"

I struggled with the question. I certainly didn't want to take her too early. I cherish each day with her, and didn't want to "play God." I also worried about my ego causing me to wait too long, to condemn her to too much pain to satisfy my selfish desire to keep her with me.

She was my "mentor". We had so many adventures together; she was with me on radio and TV interviews, in many Magazines, She was used in my seminars and workshops, and was featured in all my three books. She was the queen of our pack here, and will be sorely, sorely missed by all. Bye Tjojs, see you across the Rainbow Bridge one day --- please wait for me! I love you, you were the Amore.

Tjojs: Sweden April 1996- Italy July, 2010 -- Rest in Peace, dear soul.

ADMIT IT! LIFE CAN HAVE/ TAKE SUPRISING TURNS

One day, several months ago there was a little male dog --- just skin and bones --- carried in to Rosella's shelter. Due to his apparent pain and hunger, he was aggressive. From his penis came bubbly fluid, he looked horrible, I have to say.

At that time there was a veterinarian at the shelter, and I brought her to the cage were he was laying.

" Help him" I said!

She couldn't get close to him, he snapped like a barracuda.
We (AWL) had a group of volunteers there walking and cleaning dogs, and some of them got upset, they wanted him to be put to sleep.

One offered to pay for the medical treatments at a veterinarian clinic. But we couldn't get close to the dog, he flew at us with his sharp teeth and then curled back up in his little box.
Rosella was also afraid that the vet clinic would put him to sleep because they would say it was more humane for him.

What could I do? It was her shelter, her dog.....we provide her with some medicine but not all, we gave some boxes of antibiotics. I have to admit it also crossed my mind to put him to sleep, but I respected Rosellas's wish, and did what we could.

I'm happy to say that Rosella did it, together with her volunteers. A wonderful surprise.....Merlin got well, and he is now in a loving home. Enjoy the pictures below!

No one could touch him before, this is Amore.

I am amazed and happy.

Look at this face, so close to death--now so close to "earthly heaven."

This is the new friend, Merlin looks fantastic.
Ahh la vita....
This is our mommy.....That's Amore. Great job animal friends!

SWEETER THAN SWEET

Dino was found in a pack of stray dogs in the streets of Naples. He was about 2 months, he’s about 4 now.
I am learning to trust life, can you help me?

. He is not house broken/trained, ( I saw him peeing in the house, but I did not feel like correct him, because I did not want to traumatize him even more).

Dino is a very happy dog but also shy. He doesn’t trust humans, and why should he? God only knows the cruelty he had to endure in his first months of life.

He loves sitting and sleeping by me on the carpet ( not too close though), loves being petted ( when I can get hold of him), and playing with other dogs. His favorite buddy is Doby!!!! (Look at the yesterdays blog)
He is together with Lea, Julian and Doby and doing great in the pack, they are teaching him to grow up! That's Amore

DOBY BIG HEART BIG JOY FOR LIFE

Doby is about 10 months.
Rita found him in the woods here in Naples. Doby as you can see from the pictures is an outdoor dog....always on the move. He is so much fun....he loves playing soccer or fetching!!! He wants a lot of attention, and looks for hugs and kisses.
His snout will fit right in the palm of your hands, and once you hold him, you will not let him go anymore. He likes snuggling on the couch, and being petted!!!!

Are you a fun person, who likes to play ...maybe we can do it together.

I would love to have a forever home.

PROUD MOTHER, HAPPY DAUGHTER

Yesterday was a big day for Olivia, and for me. For a whole week she has been at a riding camp from early morning until 19.00. Each day, when I picked her up I thought she would be tired and wanting to go home, but when she saw me she looked angry at me and asked why I was there?

My girl is getting big. But it was wonderful to see how everyone took care of Olivia, and loved her. Yesterday was the competition day, all together 30 students and in three different age/ability groups.

Olivia had one of the biggest horses; "Tania", and I was amazed how much she had learned in one week. Fantastic! She was riding after her beloved trainer Giovanni and it was already 32 C!

Olivia and Tania were getting some good advice from another coach.

I kept running around whispering in Olivia's ear that everyone were winners who had done their best. I didn't want her to be upset if she didn't win. But she did! I congratulated her and she looked at me with her big blue eyes "Mom, everyone is a winner!"

She competed against this sweet boy and everyone told him to kiss Olivia. He didn't so Olivia turned around and kissed him.

He screamed and started to cry....and ran away. But the smile on Olivia's face was priceless.

What an Amore day!

ONE OF MY DAYS

Tigro (picture below) was rescued from a horrible concentration camp here in Campania. When Milla was visiting we went in "undercover" in the shelter and Tigro caught Milla with his paws and wouldn't let go.
With tears in her eyes Milla said "We had to save him!"
Finally after 2 months he is now in a very good shelter with 3 girlfriends and can come out everyday and roam around in free sniffing grass. I go there every second day.

He got his rabies shot and will in a couple of months go to Sweden.

Alessandria is a very wonderful animal friend, here she is welcoming Tigro

Sophia has become one of my favorites in the shelter. She is 4-5 years old, been there 1 year. She is so adorable, smart and listens very well. I hope I can give her a wonderful present; a wonderful home.

Scooby and Phillipo were moved from Marco Sanna kennel, to this shelter since here they can run outside everyday. This lady is taking care of the section were they are, and she is a very kind lady, giving them goodies and petting them instead of ignoring.
I like to watch people how they are towards shelter dogs, then I know if it is a good place or not.

Ulla from Sweden flew down over a long weekend, to spend time with her Phillipo and Capri, two dogs she adopted but waiting for their passport to be ready. Capri is ready but Phillipo didn't develop any antibodies from his first shot of rabies, and had to take another one. When Ulla was here I brought Phillipo (and his friend Scooby) to my home so they could spend quality time together. He enjoyed the bath and Ulla was gentle and he loved it.

Ulla also brought alot of presents, for me, my children and also Swedish food, and for the dogs treats. Also she brought another car magnet since people cannot leave them alone on my car.

Thank you OBIDOS AB for sponsoring us with the beautiful sign. That,s Amore Grazie Mille

Sara Hover (SE-USA) thank you for your wonderful care package, still thinking and keeping yur promise to us--Thats Amore

UPDATE ON JULIAN

Remember Julian found not able to walk, blind and confused? We got him to Dr Damiani's clinic and after that our wonderful Rita and Jake became his foster parents. One night he had a scary seizure and had to go to the emergency clinic for observation.

Later, a couple of days later, we had an appointment at Dr Damiani's clinic to take out fluid from brain area, done by neurologist Dr Longo. The fluid could not be older than one hour so a person from a laboratory was standing next to Dr Longo and could right away drive the test to their lab.

One of the tests came out that he is having an infection/inflammation in his brain. The other result is pending. We have to wait for more puzzle-pieces to come together, but there are 4 possible causes. On the picture above, a "healthy" brain would nearly not have any purple dots.

Keep your Amore paws crossed for Julian.
