ONE OF MY DAYS

Tigro (picture below) was rescued from a horrible concentration camp here in Campania. When Milla was visiting we went in "undercover" in the shelter and Tigro caught Milla with his paws and wouldn't let go.
With tears in her eyes Milla said "We had to save him!"
Finally after 2 months he is now in a very good shelter with 3 girlfriends and can come out everyday and roam around in free sniffing grass. I go there every second day.

He got his rabies shot and will in a couple of months go to Sweden.

Alessandria is a very wonderful animal friend, here she is welcoming Tigro

Sophia has become one of my favorites in the shelter. She is 4-5 years old, been there 1 year. She is so adorable, smart and listens very well. I hope I can give her a wonderful present; a wonderful home.

Scooby and Phillipo were moved from Marco Sanna kennel, to this shelter since here they can run outside everyday. This lady is taking care of the section were they are, and she is a very kind lady, giving them goodies and petting them instead of ignoring.
I like to watch people how they are towards shelter dogs, then I know if it is a good place or not.

Ulla from Sweden flew down over a long weekend, to spend time with her Phillipo and Capri, two dogs she adopted but waiting for their passport to be ready. Capri is ready but Phillipo didn't develop any antibodies from his first shot of rabies, and had to take another one. When Ulla was here I brought Phillipo (and his friend Scooby) to my home so they could spend quality time together. He enjoyed the bath and Ulla was gentle and he loved it.

Ulla also brought alot of presents, for me, my children and also Swedish food, and for the dogs treats. Also she brought another car magnet since people cannot leave them alone on my car.

Thank you OBIDOS AB for sponsoring us with the beautiful sign. That,s Amore Grazie Mille

Sara Hover (SE-USA) thank you for your wonderful care package, still thinking and keeping yur promise to us--Thats Amore

FIAT RESCUE TRANSPORT

My SUV is still at the repair man and since we had to order special parts from the States I don't know when I can get it back. I have to tell you, I miss my SUV so much. Rescuing strays in the smallest FIAT is kind of funny though.
Today Olivia and I picked up three dogs in my rent car FIAT and we really looked funny with dogs everywhere, Capri, Phillipo and Scooby.

All three got safe to Dr Damiani's clinic, and Dr Loungo took care of them and all the paper work that needs for their up coming Swedish passports. Blood test and leishaminiosis were made.

Back home, 19 lovely dogs were waiting for their treatments, and Olivia took care of sweet ABBY. What a sweaty day full of dog hair and Amore.

OLIVIA (MINI-ME) AND ME ON A MINI-MISSION

We moved Scooby and Phillipo from Rossella's shelter last week to Marco Sanna kennel for many reasons. It is easier for me to test them in different situations and bringing them to our veterinarian that is only 5 minutes away. And also to communicate with them to listen to what they want and what has happened before in their lives. Monica and Milla walked them a couple of times while they were visiting, and the dogs seem to be doing very well together. Phillipo had been labeled as "aggressive" towards other males, and I want to start working to see if it is a true label, and if so, to what degree?

Olivia and I left this morning and went to take both out. Since it is a heavy traffic area in an apartment zone, I had to take both in one hand and Olivia in the other one. They were doing great and Scooby the "nice male" and Phillipo did great together. I will of course continue trying with different males later on. It was a nice mini-mission.

PHILLIPO AND SCOOBY GETTING READY

A lot of drama and working not with our own veterinarian --- we finally got the dogs to our AWL veterinarian and to our next surprise none of them were castrated! An appointment was made right away.

Thanks to our great helpers Pio and Martina, the dogs are now at LegaProAnimale

I am very frustrated, because of the veterinarian that was out at the shelter giving them the rabies injections and blood tests we had asked for. But when we tried to get the results, asking several times via email, we never got a good answer. Phillipo's injection was made last November as we thought, or Scooby's two months ago. Phillipo got his little book but we are still sending the veterinarian emails that we want his full documentation.

Even more frustrated is Phillipo's new owner in Sweden, who had hoped to have him home in June. Now she will have to wait longer. That is really sad... both for her, and for Phillipo.

We are trying our best to rescue dogs and we were using the veterinarian that the shelter used (since it is not our territory, we didn't feel we could demand to use our normal vets, but now you can bet that I am demanding) to help getting animals out. The shelter's perferred vet was supposed to be doing the medical things required to adopt the dogs out of country. Saddly, this hasn't happened, and we have wasted a bunch of time. Sometimes I do really wonder what is going on in their mind! For people that should be looking out for the animal's best interests, either because that is their job or their stated passion... but seem to be doing just the opposite. For the ones that it is their job... don't they understand they will loose business this way?

Lately many people have been very rude, dumped their dog(s) and made our work that much harder. I may not write everything on the blog, but believe me I do it in my up-coming book. (and/or column in the magazine). That's not a threat, its a promise....you don't do that towards animals and then claiming you are an animal friend. Not good Karma!
