FINALLY LIBERTA?

Picture taken by me on my iPhone!

Many times rescuing dogs can be difficult, but also very rewarding. Plenty of times we read with our hearts more than our intellect, and when it comes to some breeds it can be a difficult case if (we are) having no experience. Perhaps they have a stronger mind, they are bred to guard, fight, etc.

These two Mastiff mixes have lived in an abandoned car for some time; how long, no one knows. But they lived in that car wreck like a married couple, taking care of each other. They were brought in to a family's garage, being loved and fed. I was called in to see what had happened to them and if I could help.

I was a little nervouse since this breed has a strong energy, and since no one knew their background we didn't know what we were dealing with.

They had good energies and were very friendly. You could tell that they had had owner(s), but what kind of owners? They were full of scars, big scars and I knew they were former dogfighters, who had somehow escaped, and now were out in their freedom.

Freedom but for how long? Since they look rough and with the already "dangerous" looking breed, people will naturally become afraid. They will find a reason to kill them! Many Campania people are very protective over their children--but it has a double affect--the children becomes scared and screams at things, which will scare the parents.

They are now in Rita's home area and we need to adopt these to a forever home. I would like to have them adopted to a person or familiy that is used to this kind of breed, and with no children (since we do not have their past we don't want to jepardize anyone, humans or animals)

I have only had good experience with these kind of dogs.... but I have seen what the humans can do to them too, pure evilness. Let's give these two "oldies" a good relaxing home. We (Animals Without Limits) will help you with everything: good health and good mentality...same goes for you.

ONE BIG ONE SMALL BOTH IN NEED OF LOVE

Amore Bella in need of a yard! A wonderful 96lb mastiff named Bella. She is approximately 2yrs old. She is currently living on base, but the base is forcing the owner to find a new home for her. So it is nothing wrong with the dog! (like 97% of the time)

This little sweet puppy was found together with her sibblings in the garbage. For several days no mother was in sight. Bea, a fantastic Italian woman, made sure all 5 got homes, and AWL is helping Abe and Martha's little new friend (above picture) in their house with up-to-date shots and microchip and later steralization.

Surgery for Bull Frog

Photograph Copyright (C) 2008 Naples Friends of Animals
Last Saturday I wrote about the Italian Mastiff that was found with his leg twisted (and with a big chain hanging around his neck) He needs surgery to amputate the twisted leg.

I got an e-mail from Genni, the President of Naples Friends of Animals, and I want to share it with you;
"I know, this dog's condition is unbelievable and so heartbreaking. "Bull" as my husband calls him for now or "Bull Frog" as I affectionately say as he hops around, is doing well, eating a lot, and getting all of the attention and care that he needs and deserves. The heart that dog has!! It breaks my heart to see them like this!! Please feel free to post his pictures on your blog. I am also contacting several mastiff rescues in the States about this wonderful dog, hoping to get some assistance. "
Lets help Bull Frog! That is frog jumping good Amore!

Three Legged Amore

Photographs Copyright (C)2008 Naples Friends of Animals

I ran into Genni, the President of Naples Friends of Animals with her husband today, and they told me about their newest rescue. He's a full blooded Cane Corso Mastiff, about 8 months old, but severely malnourished (about 50 lbs when he should be near 100!) and with a horribly broken rear leg. They think it has been broken for months, sticks out at a weird angle to the rear, and will likely require amputation. (Genni says he is an amazing dog)

There is something about three-legged dogs... when they run and play despite their "disability", it shows how we all should take our setsbacks in stride, adapt and overcome.

This conversation with Genni and her husband reminded me of a three-legged client I had had back in Sweden. He was very happy and loved his family, but he was "irritated" because the hallway into the house was always filled with shoes, everywhere! He fell, lost balance and it was always so many shoes!

His Master looked at me with her huge eyes, mouth wide open; "I cannot believe what I am hearing! I take care of other children in my home while their parents are working, and I have four children myself."

She looked at the dog then to me; "I have been nagging on the children to please put the shoes together but no one is listening."

A couple of weeks later an e mail came from this lady thanking me for an interesting session;

"I sat down with all the children and told them that our dog had been to a lady that could 'talk' to the animals, and our dog complained about the shoes everywhere. He was afraid of getting hurt."

"After that conversation the shoes have been placed beautifully together in a long row next to the wall, because no one wants him to fall and get another twisted ankle"

This is children Amore to our four legged--er three legged friends.

AWL are sending Amore to NFOA's Mastiff.
