VISITING ANOTHER SHELTER- WE NEED YOUR HELP!

6 rows of about 30 pens each. 400 +/- Dogs. The facility is fully concreted, good drainage, relatively safe pens for the animals. Imagine the heat of the Italian sun reflecting off the concrete. Imagine the cold of the concrete in the winter. Imagine the sound of the barking echoing through the rows of pens. Imagine the endless longing for someone, something to take you away from this?

Olivia always makes fast friends with the animals. Here, 3 inmates struggle for some human contact, and to sniff her hand. They will remember and replay that brief encounter for a long time in their "jail-cell".

This little cat was among 1-2 dozen cats housed at the shelter. They have several cages in a corner to themselves, but still the dogs know they are there. Humans in prison have an end-date when they will be released. These animals committed no crime, yet they have an indefinite sentence... and believe me, they feel the soul-crushing reality of incarceration.

These three brothers (there is a 4th brother in another cage) have been at the shelter for some time. They are good-sized dogs, 2-3 years old. Imagine how they must feel emotionally not being able to run-off their energy, not being stimulated with the smells their creator intended for them to smell.

This poor little guy is a perfect example of what we want to help with a hospice. His right eye was removed and the socket sewn shut. His left eye is hugely swollen due to a disease, and will likely soon either pop-out or burst.

We had heard about this shelter from a lady that helps there. We arranged for a visit. Adrian, the operator, graciously showed us around and told us about some of the animals there. She operates a private shelter, but the community also has about 100 dogs there as well.

AWL will organize some recuring "missions" to help the dogs, and will be happy to facilitate adoptions. Please help in any way you can.
