TOGETHER WITH RESCUE PERSONS

This place is having the harmony, heated doghouses that are big and they are maximum two dogs in each. They have an outdoor place they can go out on. Summer time, that is soon in Northen Italy--they have there own dog pool always supervised by a person--and they love swiming around.

When standing there this lady next to me says to Nicoletta that she knows me! I thought that was strange since this was my first trip to Parma. I heard the name TOTO ! On facebook I had read about the dog Toto that had been in a shelter for 12 years, and he needed a home so badly. I replied that I would gladly adopt him. At the same time there were another family in Parma that also wanted to adopt him so insted of having to have a nine hour long car trip they decided to let the family in Parma adopt him. I was happy by that result since the thought that suddenly after so many years two families wanted him.

But how small the world can be! Here I am standing in this wonderful area and Toto's rescuer is visiting. What a group of wonderful people!

In Napoli were Bella was, she met a veterinarian who is not a behavior expert. Yes the veterinarian sees many dogs but that doesn't make a person an understander of animal behavior. The veterinarian told the foster parents to be very careful with this kind of breed and maybe it would be best if the dog was put down to sleep.

I told the Doberman rescue person Nicoletta what we had been told and she looked at us and said that is a normal behavior from a Doberman to want to hold your hand! It is a love/affection thing, saying "I cannot get enough from you!"

We are so happy that we could transfer Bella to professional people that know this beautiful breed. Many times the outside (of anything) can confuse us, the same goes with humans. The Amore is to seek our and let professionals educate you.

A WONDERFUL RESCUE FOR BELLA

On earlier blogs have we been writing about Doberman Bella that Maura found in terrible condition --- skin and bones, and also with red mange. Maura's own Doberman didn't accept Bella so they had to live separated, and Bella didn't understand children and could nibble them. Maura with four children, that last part became a big problem. But I admire Maura, she kept Bella, gave her food, love and a lot of treatments for her skin condition. AWL paid for the sterilization.

We also started to look after adoption options, but it was difficult since Dobermans also can be a misunderstood breed. None of us wanted her to become a guard dog in a factory area. An Italian volunteer shared a contact with the "Dobermann's Angels" up in Parma. Bella got an invitation! We were all so thrilled!

The whole family drove the 9 hours up with Bella and met the rescue group in a wonderful, beautiful kennel. Nicolette, a warm and brilliant person greeted us and thought Bella was a great dog, and super specimen of the breed. We all had a wonderful time at the place, Olivia and Max were playing with cute puppies and rolling in grass. I could stay there forever!

Thank you all for your kindness and great working together skills. Special thanks to Martina, Maura, Todd, Nicolette for saving the Angels! You guys are Amore.

CLOSE TO DEATH

The family and I went out to have a look at a kennel property and a possible Hospice location. On our way home we took a different route, a busy four-laner and the traffic was significatn.

Suddenly we see this little fluffy thing bouncing around the cars, so close to death that we all held our breath in the car. The little one tried to jump over the median, but was to small and kept falling down on the busy road again.

Todd stopped the car and I jumped out nearly getting hit by cars, and scooped her up into my arms and into the car again. Some Italians passed us gave us the "thumb's up" sign that they were glad we'd taken action.

She is only 5-7 months old we guess; smelled like an old pig stable so I rushed over to Alberto's animals store and had her washed. Then home to 18 new friends.

What an evening for this little girl!

She sleeps together with my husband and is so sweet and gentle... and curious about everything new she is experiencing. She is up for adoption to the perfect family. Is it you?

DIFFERENT MISSIONS

Olivia is a good helper, she had to hold Bonita in Dr Damianis waiting room while I and Capri were inside getting checked by Dr Damiani. Capri was scared constantly trying to escape. Bonita is a lady that is so cool. Two veterinarians were examine her, blood work was made and she got her rabies shot. And she didn't move a wrinkle.

Pio together with Max and Olivia we drove out to LegaPro to pick up the four females that got serialized three days ago. They were happy to see us and my heart sank closer we got to the shelter. I always feel so bad putting them back in there.

One of the females, Stella so sweet and gentle. They are so well behaved.

Three females in the back and Olivia wanted one dog to hold. She is such a helper. The dogs were very quiet and sweet, they are so patient in general. I can see more and more how we humans can make a dogs mind weak.

And what we don't like to see we want to take away...but this is reality so please support us in spay and neutering campaigns. There are 20 puppies in the shelter right now. We had their moms spayed! But four mothers =24 puppies

Please help to give a foster home or even better a forever home, AWL will help you.

SATURDAY MISSION IN CANILE

We had a sunny, lovely day and new volunteers that were so great to the dogs, and they sure did walk dogs! One of the volunteers left us to go on a 12 hour shift. She choose to walk dogs instead of sleeping. Wow, now that was amazing! A new pup with the biggest paws got a lot of treats and love, what a sweet-heart.
And we had food donations with us. Malte and Sabine thank you for your donations of bags, and Anna at the NEX for calling me again and telling there were more to pick up. You make many that are hungry so much happier...Darren our "old trooper" and Patrick carrying bags in.

Darren's son joined us and he was a SUPER trooper. He earned an AWL t-shirt the same day. He walked so many dogs, cleaned the puppy kennels and the best thing was; He came up to us asking many times, "What can I do now?" Amazing! We want you to join us all the time!

Some walked dogs, some danced!

And with us we had Bonita (formerly Linda) She stayed in the car and also got nice walks, but she didn't have to go back to her old home. That was a good feeling.
What a day! Thank you everyone for making a big difference for these dogs, and the spirit was on top. I got many laughs...that's Amore!

More pictures on http://www.animalswithoutlimits.blogspot.com/ from the same day!

REMEMBER RIKKI WITH PARVO

You remember the little puppy that had Parvo and we didn't know if he would survive!
He is doing great. This little guy 4 kg are growling and jumping like a little tough pup is suppose to do. Thanks to many volunteers and good team work he is now a happy dog and his family is so thankful and happy.
Martina, Pio and Chiara have been assisting the family in the treatment to Rikky. Chiara brought him back to the Lega Pro for a check up. He is doing great! That's Amore

ANIMAL RESPONSIBILITY

After the mission at Rosella's shelter yesterday, Tammy, Todd, Olivia and me continued the mission with four rescue dogs to Lega Pro Clinic for sterilization. (One is out of picture a beautiful red and white Setter that Olivia is holding)
AWL got help from a warm-hearted, lovely Tammy. She took extra care of this little girl who has Ehrlichia, the tick disease. It was good we came in with her now because she can still be treated. But the bad news: the treatment will continue for one month so we would love to have her in a foster family. She is sweeter than sweet, so calm and so kind. She is great with children and other dogs. For now, she needs a quiet loving place to get her strength back.

Tammy and Todd with two beautiful ladies. They were so good in the car and so great with other dogs, and Olivia my daughter.
They are up for adoption--these are NOT AWL dogs but we are helping out to find a loving home and we pay for their treatments to set them off on the right paw.
More to come from the day of Mission

LEROY AND RIKKY-- A BUSY SICK MORNING

Yesterday morning was a very busy and sick day. Leroy was found in a Parco here in Lago Patria roaming around trying to find some help. Sarah left out a blanket and a box for him of course water and food. He was skin and bones, and full off pressure wounds, at the end of his tail bloody mess.

He had a chain collar on him, probably he had been chained up and not fed. Sarah and Rachel with her baby drove behind me to LegaProAnimale. I had a very sick puppy Rikky in my SUV with Parvo.
He was examine by Dr Gigi (that we all like, dogs as humans) and to our surprise he is 9 years old! We thought he was 9 months old that's how acted, but if you had been chained for many years and suddenly free....jumping and looking at everything for the first time.
His teeth were all down, we guess that he tried to chew off the chain, and eating rocks etc
(He was de wormed and frontline at the clinic)

Wonderful Sarah and Rachel are fostering him, and got some protein pasta to get him back in shape. According to the he is very sweet and kind.

If you look from a distance, he is a handsome devil! We are keeping our paws for Leroy.

While Leroy was in one room I sat with Rikky a 4-5 months very sick pup with Parvo. We had him on IV and antibiotic, vitamins and homeopathic for vomiting and diarrhea. He slept with his little head in my hand. What a sweet heart!

Isabelle assisted when Dr Gigi tried to find a vein it was a little difficult. After 2 hours started Rikki to "wake" up and small grrrrrr was heard from him. We all laughed! What a lovely sound from someone that was so sick for three days before getting treatment.
I got IV antibiotic and other shots with me and drove him to his owner, and together with wonderful Italian rescuers I showed and told them what to do twice a day. And they are there helping the family!
Keep your paws for this little fellow too.
Thank you Pio, Martina, Chiara for telling us about Rikky so AWL could go in and help. Thats what I call Animal Amore
